Where Chicago's Youth Become

Filmmakers, Musicians, and Storytellers

TechKno Academy teaches underserved teens storytelling through making short films, documentaries, and music videos; from idea development through production and postproduction.

Since 2012 we've trained more than 500 young people and connected them with industry professionals for hands-on music and video projects, internships, and career workshops.

Started as MEMa Studio in 2012, we expanded into TechKno Camp (a six-week summer program) and TechKno Academy (a ten-week semester program) in 2018.

Students receive practical, career-focused training in music and film production, studio techniques, teamwork, and real-world learning that extends beyond the classroom.

We now offer TechKno Academy: Music & Film and TechKno Academy: Film Sound Design. A third program is written: the Shadowing Program in Live and Broadcast Production, ten production roles taught alongside a working crew on a real event, four of them broadcast. It is waiting on a host site and a session date. Film Scoring is still in development.

Join us in helping train the next generation of creative professionals for meaningful careers in music, film, and the broader arts industry.
